STATEMENT of the Civic Movement “Building Trust” on the Annual Conference “Cooperation between Parliament and Civil Society”
The Civic Movement “Building Trust” supports initiatives aimed at involving civil society in dialogue with Parliament, especially in the context of European integration. However, this participation must be different: more open, more balanced and more substantive.
We stand for reasonable and meaningful participation of civil society for our common future. The document emphasizes that consultations should not be a formality or a closed process limited to a narrow circle of organizations. Local, regional, professional, academic and sectoral organizations must be genuinely involved in these consultations.
The Movement draws attention to the fact that many representatives of civil society from the regions remain more like observers than full participants in the discussions. It also criticizes the practice of announcing public consultations too late, when interested parties do not have enough time to prepare and take part properly.
