Civic Movement “Construim ÎnCREDere/Building Trust” Calls for the Removal of VAT on Natural Gas for Household Consumers

The Civic Movement “Building Trust” has issued a public statement calling on the Government to intervene to protect the population, following Energocom’s request to increase the natural gas tariff from MDL 14.42 to MDL 20.93 per m³, including VAT. The proposal is yet to be examined by ANRE, and the new tariff has not been approved.

As an immediate measure, the Movement calls on the Government to initiate the removal of the 8% VAT rate applied to natural gas supplied to household consumers, in order to ease the burden of energy bills on families. The reduced VAT rate of 8% is currently provided for under tax legislation.

“In times of profound crisis, the state must serve as a shield for its citizens, not as a collector of higher taxes through their utility bills.”
